Rejuvenating

With spring coming back around I’ve decided to rejuvenate my photography. I took a long break but it’s always been something I just can’t get off my mind. Here’s some photos from my last session. I’ve done less and less editing. These are all straight out of camera with just a few in camera film simulations. My X Pro 3 still doing its thing.

10/16 Photo walk

Finally had some free time to devote back to my photography. I think I’m going to make Saturday my photography practice days. Unfortunately, it’s going to start getting cold in New York. But this Saturday was beautiful and I had a good time taking shots around the Village and Soho. I got a few highlights I’d like to share and two favorites this time.

One of my favorite for the day. I love the intimacy between the couple and the glasses watching them. Although I guess the glasses would represent me in this case…

Definitely my favorite for the day. I love the light coming through the window. It’s only on part of his face and the shadow is slicing right through blocking light on the upper half. Also the framing using the window helps to direct your eyes straight to the subject. If I had a second chance at this moment I would have backed up to catch the entire window frame not just the bottom and sides. But to completely show the subject framed within the window.

Spread Love

On the 29th I had the opportunity to do a photoshoot in Central Park with Joshua Saadi, the creator of the clothing line “Spread Love”. How we even connected in the first place is a strange series of events that in his words was meant to be. Joshua is involved with different organizations helping people and families that have been affected by different types of cancers and donating to them. His clothing was created with that idea in mind.

On this day as models we had Evelyn who was a breast cancer survivor herself, Rocio who was a friend of Joshua’s and Joshua himself. I think we all had a good time and felt good knowing this shoot had a higher purpose of ultimately helping people and families that have been affected by the hardships of living or having a loved one with cancer.

To take a look at Joshua’s journey and what he’s been up to check out his instagram @PoloSpreadsLove

9/11 photo walk

It’s been a minute since I’ve made a post. I’ve been shooting but a lot quieter. Slowly getting off instagram and back into the real world with my photos. Yesterday I went on a photo walk with a friend starting on 57th and 5th. If I’m being honest a lot of the good situations I capture is a mix of luck and seeing what’s happening (mostly luck). There was one photo that I really loved from yesterday (as pompous as that is to say) and a few that I enjoy. As always it’s a continuous process to get better and overcome fears while taking photos. Let me know which you enjoy.

This final photo below is in my opinion the best photo I took of the day. We were walking behind these two ladies for a long time. Not necessarily for a photo but coincidence. While my friend was taking a photo I looked at them on my left and snapped this photo quickly.

It’s often scary to take photos in the street especially so if they are very close to people. I was pretty close to these two ladies here and one clearly sees me. I love the expression she made and even the activity and light in the background. A few things that would make this a better photo is if I aimed a little lower and capture more of the ladies’ bodies. Also, wait a second until the frame was clear and just them. And finally moving slightly to the left so the pole isn’t so close to the lady in green. Of course this is all hindsight but looking back these things would have made for a cleaner shot.

Fitness goals

On May 22nd I meet up with Inayah for a photoshoot at Kissena Park. She’s a trainer/health enthusiast based in NYC. We didn’t have a definite plan but we decided to walk around and look for good lighting. We ended up with a bunch of good shots. A lot of them look like we went on a hike. This was our second shoot together but definitely the best so far. Check it out and let me know what you think.
